Mark Cummings – Travel Writer, Author, Broadcaster.

Mark is a travel writer and filmmaker, award-winning radio presenter and author.

Mark shares stories of his adventures through words and film — from trekking high into Japan’s mountains on a Buddhist pilgrimage to uncovering hidden corners of Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka; from slow travel by rail across Europe to island-hopping in Greece as a self-confessed “reluctant cruiser”.

His recent work includes includes a week filming Japan’s Kunisaki Peninsula observing Walk Japan’s community project, exploring the wildlife conservation work in Taiwan and returning to Australia for the first time in 34 years. Working with ABC Radio and The Sydney Observer, Mark reflected on how Sydney has changed since he last lived there in 1991.

Mark hosted the award-winning BBC Radio Gloucestershire Breakfast Show for 18 years, presented several West Country television travel series for BBC Points West, and has written a monthly column for Cotswold Life for more than two decades.

His first book Glorious Gloucestershire has been reprinted several times and was named Waterstones Gloucester Book of the Year 2024. Mark has appeared to full houses at regional festivals including Gloucester History Festival, Stroud Book Festival and The Cheltenham Literature Festival.

His latest book, More Adventures in Glorious Gloucestershire, will be published shortly.

Next, Mark heads back to Japan, explores Taiwan for the first time, and embarks on a unique eco-safari in Kenya.

Award Winning

Mark is the current recipient of the “Outstanding Contribution to the Community Across Gloucestershire” Gloucestershire Live Business Award. He received this award soon after his last Breakfast Show on BBC Radio Gloucestershire, a show he presented for 18 years. He is a season ticket holder for Gloucester Rugby, an honorary member of The Gloucester Civic Trust and former Mock Mayor of Barton. This historic role was awarded to the biggest nincompoop in Gloucester dating back to the Civil War and Mark was thought worthy of the revived role in 2017-18.  Our thanks go to Tim Pellatt of Cordial AV for use of the video (left).
